Preparing for Your Distant Reiki Session
For Your Body
Avoid alcohol, drugs and limit caffeine the day of your appointment.
At least two days before and after: Purposefully eat healthy foods and drink lots of water.
Turn your phone on airplane mode or leave it in a different room on silent if possible.
Plan a few minutes prior to your appointment to settle in, stretch, and relax in your space.
Take off your shoes, jewelry, and glasses.
Stay well hydrated before and after our session.
For Distant Sessions: Your Space
Distant sessions take place via Zoom, with the option of using video. Download Zoom for free or access the link through the meeting invitation.
Pick a private, quiet space where you can lie down/sit and be comfortable. This might be your couch, chair, bed, or even your car. It is a place where you can ensure privacy and control distractions. Clear this healing space by cleaning it up and opening a window and letting fresh air in. You can burn a candle, incense, or essential oils (though this is not necessary). Dim the lights.
If you are around others, please tell them not to disturb you until you tell them you are done. I do not need to see you on the screen.
For Distant Sessions: Items to have
A glass of water
Pillows and a blanket or two. A pillow or bolster under your knees is nice if you choose to lay on your back.
Use a connected speaker if possible for better audio quality for our music
A pen/paper- you are welcome to journal or take any notes
During Your Reiki Session
Getting Started
Most people prefer to receive Reiki lying down; though some find sitting is more comfortable. In person sessions will use a massage table. If you prefer to sit upright in a chair, please let me know ahead of time.
Reiki energy will flow from the very start (if not well before) the session. We will begin by addressing any questions you may have and setting an intention/affirmation for the session. We’ll then enter a short visualization to begin centering the mind and body. Music will be played.
A Reiki session is usually practiced in a quiet, comfortable state, however, you are welcome to talk or ask a question until you feel quiet again.
I will end the music and ring a bell or call your name to bring the session to a close. Remain where you are at this time, take several slow deep breaths and I will invite you to open your eyes when you are ready. This is a time to observe and enjoy how you feel.
Time will be given to sharing and consultation.
You are welcome to journal at any time.
Following our time together, energy will continue to move and your healing process continues. Plan to take it easy, listen to your body and rest as needed. See below for more information on this.
What Will Reiki Feel Like?
Each Treatment Session is Unique
A lot of people have questions about what Reiki will feel like. Reiki is a little unique for everyone and varies session to session. Some feelings that may arise include:
Tingling
Change in temperatures
Releasing of anxiety, fear, anger and muscle tension for general relaxation
Heartfelt sense of balance, peace and calm
Vivid visualizations
Somatic/physical sensations such as pressure/weight as in a denser filling up or a weight lifting so there is a sensation of lightness around the body
Shifting bubbles of emotion or what seems like randomly running memories/thoughts
Sudden body movements/ functions, twitches, tears or sounds in the belly
Waves of energy moving through the body or concentrated energy within particular areas
Tranquil sleepiness or falling completely asleep
Allow feelings and thoughts to pass without judgement during the sessions. As with meditation and other practices, it is helpful to observe your body and mind with a playful curiosity. Acknowledge how you feel. You can thank your body for the healing work it is doing. When thoughts and feelings do arise, bring your mind back to your breath and your intention/affirmation. During a series, we will work through different and deeper levels of your being which can result in unique sensations associated with what was needed during each of the sessions.
Healing After the Session
Commit to Self-Care
Please take it easy after your Reiki session as more time is often needed for the body to absorb all of the energy offered. The healing process will continue well after our time together. Some ways to self-care during your body’s integration of your Reiki session include:
Taking a hot bath or shower before you go to bed
Drinking plenty of water, eat regular healthy meals and snacks
Continue to give yourself time to just be with you, build in time for self reflection, journaling, walking/light exercise and meditation and avoid over-stimulating places if possible
Getting as much rest/sleep as possible right after the session
For some clients, they will feel emotional bubbles that come and go quickly out of the blue or a strong desire to rest after the session. Energy will continue to move through you to clear out energy blocks and restore balance. As blocks clear, sometimes this is felt through other physical sensations. It is best to plan ahead for these energy flows, so book your session where you will have quiet restful days following your appointment.
Some people may feel energized after a session with “wake up and move” energy. Whatever your body is feeling, please do your best to listen and honor its requests. If you have bursts of energy, take advantage and get moving, such as taking a brisk walk. I would be happy to answer questions to further support you after our session, so feel free to reach out at any time.
Your body will time your integration perfectly to what is best for you.
